Charlotte Evelyn McEwen, 70, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 2016, at Meadowview Memory Care Village from pneumonia and complications of Alzheimer's. Graveside services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Cemetery by Pastor Ed Moreano. A Celebration of Life will be held at First St. Paul Church in Hastings, Neb., at a later date. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Teahen Funeral Home.
Charlotte is survived by her daughter, Jennifer (Jess) Rockwell of Cedar Rapids; two daughters by marriage, Sheila (Dean) Thompson of Hastings, Neb., and Diana (Brian) Johnson of Minneapolis, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren with one on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Ethel Alloway and husband, Larry.
Charlotte was born Dec. 16, 1945, in Grand Island, Neb., the daughter of Harry and Ethel Hinkle Alloway. Charlotte and Larry were married in Las Vegas, Nev., in 1978. Before that she was married to Michael Lawson. They divorced. Charlotte was a teacher with the Giltner Public School System for 21 years before retiring in 2007. She received her master's degree from the University of Nebraska at Kearney in education. As well as her master's degree, she had eight certified professional certificates in teaching and her professional counseling endorsement.
Charlotte's family would like to thank the staff at Meadowview for their amazing love and compassionate care that was given to her.
