Ellen Hanken, 95, died Monday morning, June 22, 2015, at the Solon Care Center following an extended illness. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 29, at St. John Lutheran Church, rural Monticello, with
interment in the church cemetery. Friends may call after 9:30 a.m. at the church. The Rev. Dale Glawatz will officiate at the services.

Surviving are four children, Mary Hanken, Honolulu, Hawaii, Ann (Robert) Briggie, Cedar Rapids, Ruth (Dave) McNamara, Des Moines, and William (Sue) Hanken, Tiffin; eight grandchildren, Ben (Joey) McNamara, Shawna (Andrew) Kachel, Heather McNamara, Joseph, Molly, Lauren, Erin and Katherine Briggie; a great-grand-daughter, Emerson McNamara; her sister-in-law, Audrey Bohlken; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred, in 1993; four brothers, Carl, Henry (Hazel), Adolph (Jean) and George W. (Jerry) Bohlken; three sisters, Laura and Mary Bohlken and Agnes (Louis) Collman; two nieces, Beverly Morgan and Catherine A. Connelly; and four nephews, James Collman, Michael Bohlken, Ronald Bohlken and Kenneth Collman.
Ellen L. Bohlken was born July 9, 1919, in Wayne Township, Jones County, Iowa, the daughter of Adolph and Emma Bohlken Bohlken. She attended Wayne Township School No. 5, later completing her education as an adult. She worked at Collins Radio for three years during World War II. Ellen married Frederick Hanken on Oct. 23, 1945, in Belding, Mich. The couple farmed near Monticello for several years. Ellen worked at John McDonald Hospital for 25 years as a nurse's aide. Ellen had been a resident of the Solon Care Center since 2008.
Ellen was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in Monticello. Ellen was very creative and enjoyed decorating for the holidays, flower arranging, cooking, and family get-togethers.
