A memorial fund has been established.
Marcia was born June 8, 1946, the daughter of Roy and Faith (Appleton) Haines, in rural Urbana. Marcia grew up on the farm and was always helping her parents with the farm work. She graduated from Urbana High School in 1965. On Sept. 7, 1963, Marcia married her high school sweetheart Ken Rick. After raising their three children, Marcia went to college at Kirkwood Community College and received her associate degree in computer programming. She worked for CRST, Rockwell and Duane Arnold Energy Center.
Marcia loved being outdoors working in her many beautiful flower gardens. She and Ken loved to travel whenever possible, ride bikes together, and go down to the river with the grandchildren to watch them catch fish and turtles.
You could not keep Marcia away from the grandkids' ballgames, dance recitals, motorcycle races, rock climbing events or Tae Kwon Do competitions. You could also find her an the fair grounds watching the grandkids showing pigs. Grandma went to everything that had to do with the grandkids.
Marcia enjoyed being in her “Red Hats Club” and with all of her “sisters” on their many trips, parades and outings. Marcia was a member of the Oak Grove Christian Church and has been blessed many times over by her church family. Marcia loved to sew and do crafts and would teach others her talents. She enjoyed playing cards and games and helping her mother.
Marcia is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Ken; their children, Monica (Jeff) Svoboda of Vinton, Lynette (Robert) Houdashelt of Cedar Park, Texas and Brad (Tammy) Rick of Center Point; 10 grandchildren, Amanda, Joshua, Caleb and Ariana Svoboda, Mackenzie and Cody Houdashelt, Lukas, Kelsey, Johanna and Nicole Rick; her mother, Faith Haines of Center Point; her sisters, Twilah (Tom) Kaldenberg of Albia and Linda Parker of Cedar Rapids; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins who referred to “Aunt Marcia” as their “Angel Aunt.”
Her father, Roy Haines, preceded her in death.
