MARGUERITE COON
Oxford Junction
Marguerite Mary Coon, 87, of Oxford Junction, passed away Thursday, Sept. 3, 2015, at Genesis East Hospital in Davenport following a brief illness. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, at Sacred Heart
Catholic Church, with Father Francis Odoom officiating. Burial will be in Mayflower Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The family has honored her wishes and her body has been cremated. Lahey Funeral & Cremation Service is serving the family.
Marguerite Mary Buresh was born Feb. 22, 1928, to Louis and Kathryn (Lasack) Buresh. She was raised on the family farm north of Oxford Junction, attended rural Schwab School No. 5 and graduated from Oxford Junction High School in 1945. After graduation she worked at Citizens State Bank in Wyoming. She was united in marriage to Victor Stanley "Monk" Coon on June 21, 1948, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oxford Junction.
For over 50 years, Monk and Marguerite owned and operated Coon's Corner, where Marguerite spent her days greeting customers from behind the counter. Her kind heart is fondly remembered by those whose lives she touched with her never-ending generosity over the years. Marguerite not only enjoyed her time in the store, but loved spending time at the family cabin in Guttenberg.
Mac's Booster was another of Marguerite's passions. Keeping the community, near and far, up-to-date on Oxford Junction's news was a priority of hers. Her role as matriarch of the chicken dressing served yearly at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church chicken dinner ensured that every batch was done to perfection.
Marguerite was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, member of the Sanctuary Guild, Wapsie Unit 473 of the American Legion Auxiliary and many community activities over the years.
She is survived by four sons, Dennis (Shirley) Coon, Larry (Susan) Coon and Robert (Kathy) Coon, all of Oxford Junction, and Monte Coon of Charlotte, N.C.; two daughters, Carmen (Ron) Nowachek of Wyoming and Rosemary (Mike) House of Mingo; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Louis (Olive) Buresh of Houston, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Monk; her parents; one brother, Arnold, in infancy; one sister, Lillian Brauer; a daughter-in-law, Aliceann Coon; and a grandson, Christian House.
Online condolences may be left for the family at www.laheys.com.
