Snethen, Dorthy E.
Dorthy E. Snethen, 83, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2011, following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19, at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. There will be a one hour vitiation before the service at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Visitation also will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Due to recent construction, it is required that visitors to Cedar Memorial enter making a right turn from west bound First Avenue (heading toward downtown).
Survivors include her five sisters, Gladys Snethen of Cedar Rapids, Arlene Robinson of Maryland, Mary Pederson of Monticello, Caroline Lala of Center Point, and Millie (Robert) Boland of Phoenix, Ariz.; two brothers, Cleve (Doris) Coberly of Center Point, and John (Denzel) Coberly of Marion; a brother-in-law, Clarence Mollenhauer Sr. of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin L. Snethen; son, Jerry Snethen; brother, George (Arnold) Coberly; and a sister, Ruby Mollenhauer.
Dorthy E. Snethen was born May 14, 1928, the daughter of George and Inez Vredenberg Coberly. Dorthy was united in marriage to Alvin L. Snethen on March 24, 1946, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Dorthy was a musician and had a passion for playing the piano and accordion. She played in bands all over Iowa, including the Rose Bowl. She played most recently with The Dave Dighton Band and The Johnny Ketelsen Band. The music that provided so much joy for her family and friends will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
