Lewis, Robert M.
Robert M. Lewis, 92, of Cedar Rapids, died March 28, 2010, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. The Rev. Sonda Kirksteatter of Olivet Presbyterian Church will officiate. Entombment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Surviving are his children, Carroll E. Lewis of Van Horne, Karen (Richard) Schultschik, Gary A. Lewis, and Larry (Christine) Lewis, all of Cedar Rapids, and Richard (Jackie) Lewis of Shellsburg; 11 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Meyers of Richmond, Calif.; three sisters-in-law, Louise Lewis of Texas, Dorothy Furler of Williamsburg, and Lucille Walters of Cedar Rapids; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ethel; and brothers, Bennie, Arnold, Merritt, Richard, George and Jack.
Robert McClellan Lewis was born Dec. 26, 1917, in Belle Plaine, the son of Benjamin and Nita (Stuckenbruck) Lewis. He was united in marriage to Ethel E. Walter on Aug. 29, 1940, in Williamsburg. She preceded him in death in 2005. He was a truck driver for Hawkeye Oil for many years before retirement. He enjoyed camping with family and friends, and above all, time spent with his family.
He will be greatly missed, but forever remembered by his family.
Memorial donations in Robert's honor may be made to Hospice of Mercy.
