Mick, Charles Robert 'Bob'
Charles Robert “Bob” Mick, 69, of Palo, died Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, following a brief illness. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 9, at St. Jude's Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Father Jon Seda. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, and from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. at the church before the funeral. Burial: St. Joseph's Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Judy; children, Therese (James) Elliff, Blairstown, Kristin (Jeff) Hobbs, Cedar Rapids, and Patrick (Carrie) Mick, Ely; and grandchildren, Amanda Elliff, Adrienne Elliff and Tressa Hobbs. Also surviving are his siblings, David (Margie) Mick, Shellsburg, Jon (Phyllis) Mick, Shellsburg, Gene Mick, Cedar Rapids, and Jerry (Ruth) Mick, Marion; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Charlotte (Dan) Darrow.
Born Aug. 30, 1942, in Aurora, Ill., Bob was the son of J. Edward and Lucille (Freed) Mick. He lived in Downers Grove, Ill., moved to Ottumwa, Iowa, and then to Cedar Rapids in 1952. Bob graduated from Washington High School in 1960. He was a member of the Cedar Rapids Cadets Drum & Bugle Corps. Bob served in the U.S. Army for three years as a radar operator - air defense missiles for two years in Schweinfurt, Germany. On Sept. 4, 1965, he was united in marriage to Judith Marron in Waucoma, Iowa. He started with IE in 1964 at Prairie Creek, went nuke Nov. 1, 1971, got his NRC operator license in January 1974, pulled the first critical at the Duane Arnold Energy Center in June 1974, and earned his senior operator license in December 1976. He was a shift supervisor, operations supervisor and senior outage project manager at Duane Arnold Energy Center, retiring in June 1998.
Bob belonged to St. Jude's Catholic Church. He enjoyed building models, hunting, fishing, watching the Drum Corps, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren.
