Petersen, Peter
Peter Petersen, 65, of Shellsburg, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center. Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife of almost 45 years, Karen; son, Stephen (Carrie) Petersen of Urbana; and two grandchildren, Logan and Lucas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Raymond Lee Petersen; and grandson, Andrew M. Petersen.
Peter was born March 1, 1946, the son of Peter and Florence (Janas) Petersen, in Chicago, Ill. A 1963 graduate from Waller High School, he served with the United States Air Force in 1964. On March 13, 1967, Peter was united in marriage to Karen Foreman at the Berean Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids. He worked as a machinist at Welty-Way for 12 years and then worked at Goss Graphics, retiring after 25 years of service.
Peter was a member of the Machinist Union #831, where he served as a steward and secretary/treasurer. He enjoyed fishing and golfing.
