MARJORIE HELENE PETERSEN

Marjorie Helene Petersen, 79, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Monday, Oct. 10, 2016, at Manor Care. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church by Pastor Steve Qualben. Burial: Czech National Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family after 9 a.m. Thursday.
Marjorie is survived by her husband, Richard; son, Wayne Petersen; daughter, Susan Petersen; her grandson, Stephen Petersen, all of Cedar Rapids; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Petersen of Davenport; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her infant son, David, stillborn; sister, Marlene Jane; and sister, Mary Caroline Haerther.
Majorie Helene was born Aug. 30, 1937, in Peoria, Ill., the daughter of Emerson and Georgia Louvar Long. She graduated from the University of Iowa in 1958. On July 26, 1959, Majorie married Richard Petersen at the Church of the Brethren in Cedar Rapids. She worked as a teacher in the Cedar Rapids school system until her retirement in 1967.
Marjorie was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was an avid bird watcher and loved the Iowa Hawkeyes. She was involved in genealogy, discovering her ancestors and building her family tree. She also enjoyed fishing trips, tending to flowers in her garden, taking pictures and spending time with her family.
