Betty L. Petersen, 89, passed away peacefully at the Anamosa Care Center on April 10, 2018, after an extended illness. Betty's wishes were for cremation; there will be no service. Keeping with Betty's wishes for cremation, a private family graveside service will be held at a later date. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of honoring her wishes.
Betty Petersen was born Sept. 12, 1928, to Nellie and Adolph Kernen, Monticello. She married Lloyd Petersen on July 1, 1950. They lived in Monticello, Stanwood and Wyoming before settling in Anamosa. She worked in the local hospitals and care centers as a CNA for many years. She also was a manager at both Nestlewood and Laredo apartments in Anamosa. She loved fishing, gardening and watching birds on the many feeders placed near her window.
Betty is survived by her son, Brad (Janet) of North Liberty; daughter, Kathy Larrimore of Anamosa; six grandchildren, David Petersen, Kim (Herb) Snow, Mark (Melanie) Petersen, Kristen (Joe) Wilford and Robert and Jack Larrimore; seven great-grandchildren, Kourtney Kepler, Mayah Petersen, Dominic Larrimore, Haley Larrimore, Trevor Petersen, Cameron Petersen and Lilly Jean Snow; and her sister, Rose Oltmanns of Anamosa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd, in 2013; her parents, Adolph and Nellie Kernen; her brother, Ray; two younger sisters; and son-in-law, Rick Larrimore.
Her family wants to thank Dallas and Casi and all of her caregivers at Woodland Park and Anamosa Care Center, as well as Above & Beyond hospice care, and her palliative nurses, Dr. Kilburg and Jones Regional.
