Vesely, Dorothy M.
Dorothy M. Vesely, 76, of Iowa City, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at her home. Funeral services will be held 9 a.m. Monday, Feb. 25, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, with Pastor Mike Barr officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tiffin. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Dorothy Mae Coblentz was born Feb. 13, 1937, in Topeka, Kan., the daughter of Christ “Popps”and Edna (Thomas) Coblentz. She attended schools in Kansas and later near Kalona, Iowa, at the Prairie Dale Country School. Here in Iowa, Dorothy was raised by Henry and Pearl Miller. Dorothy raised her family in this area, worked hard in the community, enjoyed flowers and working outside, and has always been a woman of strong faith, and more than willing to share that with everyone around her!
Her family includes her children, Juanita Nelson of Iowa City, Donna Duree (Gene) of Popular Bluff, Mo., Jim Nelson (Kim) of Solon and Mike Nelson (Janine) of Earlham; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Katie Miller (Chester) of Central City, Shirley Gilbert of Solon, Helen Coblentz of Tiffin, Arlene Schreiber (Jim) of Riverside and Everett Coblentz of Iowa City; her stepmother, Gerri Coblentz of Tiffin; numerous nieces and nephews; one of many lifetime companions, their (Juanita and Dorothy's) dog, Buttons; and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold Vesely; two infant children, Edna and Stephen; Dorothy's brothers, Amos, Danny, Ralph, DeWayne and Lloyd Coblentz, sisters, Viola Coblentz and Esther Coblentz and Mary Ellen Madden; and her former husband, James Nelson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Dorothy's memory to Crosspoint Baptist Church in Iowa City.
