Monroe Sr., Clyde
Clyde Monroe Sr., 91, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, at Heritage Nursing & Rehab Center in Cedar Rapids. Per Clyde's wishes his body has been cremated. A memorial gathering with military honors will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel.
Survivors include his children, Robert Monroe, Neila Barr, Molly Monroe, Claude “C.T.” Monroe and Faith Schliemann, all of Cedar Rapids; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Maude Monroe; son, Clyde “Spud” Monroe Jr.; daughter, Katrinka Monroe; one brother and one sister.
Clyde Samuel Monroe was born Dec. 8, 1917, to John and Maude (Miller) Monroe, in Carrier Mills, Ill. He served his country for 11 years in the United States Air Force, serving in Korea. Clyde worked for the Cedar Rapids Parks Department until his retirement.
Military honors by Cedar Rapids American Legion Post 727.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
