Sue Bixler, 87, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully on Monday, Nov. 13, 2017, with family by her side. Per Sue's request, private family services will be held. Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, is caring for Sue and her family.
Survivors include her children, Patrick (Beth) O'Neill, Kathleen O'Neill and Peggy O'Neill; grandchildren, Shauna (Chuck) Pertzsch, Megan (Marcus) Burns, Colleen O'Neill, Greg (Jodi) Mallar, Shannon (Josh) Cooper and Lindsey (Shane Swetel) O'Neill; 13 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and many extended family members, friends and neighbors.
Sue Marie Babcock was born Aug. 16, 1930, in Fulton County, Ohio, to Cleo and Annah (Smallman) Babcock. She married Gary O'Neill in 1948. They had four children. They later divorced. She married Calvin Bixler on Dec. 30, 1967, in Ohio. Sue worked for Bell Telephone for 25 years. After retiring, she was able to do what she loved, gardening, bird watching, cooking and gathering with friends and family. Sue made a family out of her neighbors and though they moved, she kept in touch via beautifully written letters. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her favorite pastime. Sue was a positive and happy person who saw the good in everyone she met. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Calvin; son, Kelly O'Neill; and great-grandson, Cash O'Neill.
