Barr, Everett Ellsworth
Everett Ellsworth Barr passed away Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, at the Methodist Meth-Wick Community Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Everett was born March 9, 1921, in Ute, Iowa, to William Earl and Marie Chapman Barr. After graduation from Mapleton High School in 1938, he attended Iowa State University and Morningside College. On June 16, 1945, he married Leone C. Sargeant in Sioux City, Iowa. In 1946, Leone and Everett moved to Wesley, Iowa, where he entered into the insurance business as a New York Life agent. Several years later they moved to Algona where Everett set up a general insurance agency selling home, auto, crop/hail, health and life insurance.
Everett was a well known Iowa high school football, basketball and baseball official. He officiated numerous state tournaments. In 1983, Everett was inducted into the Iowa High School Athletic Associations Officials Hall of Fame. Everett retired from National Farmer's Union Insurance where he served as a special representative to the Farm and Commercial Division in 1982.
Everett was preceded in death by his wife, Leone; his parents and a sister, Lucille Barr.
Those left to cherish his memory are his three sons, Doug (Ann) Barr of Livonia, Mich., Gary (Luann) Barr of Wentzville, Mo. and Roger (Donna) Barr of Boone. His grandchildren Leslie Barr of Livonia, Mich., Melanie (Jonathan) Levey of Manhattan Beach, Calif., Julie (Brandon) York of Kansas City, Mo. and Ryan (Erinn) Barr of Chicago. His great-grandchildren, Kirsten, Jaden and Jett York, all of Kansas City, Mo.
