Ada Elaine Stanley, 95, of Grinnell, passed away on Jan. 29, 2018, at her home.
A Celebration of Life service has been scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2, at the First Friends Church in Grinnell with the Rev. Steve Savage officiating. Organist will be Kathy Vander Ploeg.
Family burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2, at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.
In lieu of flowers, Elaine had requested memorial contributions may be directed to Bibles for America, P.O. Box 17537, Irvine, CA 92623.
Elaine was born on May 28, 1922, in Grinnell, the daughter of Jess Edward and Ada Josephina Burdick Gross. She was raised in Grinnell and was a 1939 graduate of Grinnell High School. She later graduated from the Iowa School of Beauty in Des Moines.
On March 22, 1941, she was united in marriage with Wallace Craig Stanley, in Unionville, Mo. The couple farmed for many years in the Ewart area, where she was actively involved in all aspects of running a successful farm operation while raising her family.
Elaine was very devoted to the Lord, her church, and to her family. All three were very important to her, as were her faith and love for her grandchildren. She enjoyed attending and hearing about all her grandchildren's activities. She loved people, traveling throughout America and Europe, and gardening. She raised beautiful flowers!
Her prayer, her hope, her dream, is that each of her grandchildren will be born-again Christians, that their lives will be guided each day by our Lord, and through the trials and temptations of life, you will become stronger in Christ, and someday we all will be reunited together in our Lord's presence.
Elaine is survived by her children, Patricia (Allan) Hoekstra of Boca Raton, Fla., Carolyn (James) Rosa of Arlington, Texas, Tim (Linda) Stanley of Danbury, Wis., and Doug (Rita) Stanley of Cedar Rapids; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Craig in 1971; two brothers, Cloyd and Clarence Gross; and one sister, Ruth Brown.
