Swenson, Carl

Carl Swenson, 51, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha after battling brain cancer. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church by the Rev. Harlan Gillespie and the Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer. Inurnment: St. Paul's United Methodist Church columbarium. Friends may visit from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday at Teahen Funeral Home and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the church before services.

Carl is survived by his wife, Cathy; four sons and families, Nic (Amy and Rielle), Matthew (Abbey), Connor and Tucker; granddaughter, Amity; brother, Steve, and children, John, Susan and Julianne; sister, Patricia (Alan) Coindreau, and children, Lisa, Chad and Corey; brother, Jim (Heather), and daughter, Miya; his mother, Beverly; and his father-in-law, John Berndsen.

He was preceded in death by his father, Russell; and his mother-in-law, Jennie Berndsen.

Carl was born in Madison, Wis., on May 15, 1958. Carl worked as an operational manager for Ottsen Oil Co. for over 25 years. Carl married Catherine Berndsen on Oct. 20, 1979 in Cedar Rapids.

Carl was a powerful, avid golfer and an intense bowler. He enjoyed time with his children and all of their friends. Music was a very important part of his life.
