Herink, Margaret Ann
Margaret Ann Herink, 80, of Clutier, passed away Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, Aug. 23, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama, with Father Michael Mescher as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery, rural Clutier. Visitation will be today from 4 to 7 p.m. at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama, with a vigil service at 7 p.m.
Margaret was born March 31, 1933, in Highland Township, rural Tama County, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Edna B. (DePew) Ferneau. She graduated from Gilman High School in 1950 as valedictorian of her class. On Aug. 21, 1951, she was united in marriage to Ernest Anton Herink at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in rural Clutier. Margaret was a Farm Bureau insurance agent for 32 years, retiring in 2006, as well as a homemaker and mother.
She was a past president of the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Rosary Society. Margaret was also a co-chair for the Clutier 75th celebration as well as a former chairman of the Farm Bureau Women. Other memberships included the Traer American Legion Auxiliary and Carroll Township Homemakers. After her retirement, Margaret spent many hours volunteering for various organizations and people.
Preceding her in death were her parents; and her husband, Ernie, in 1990.
Survivors include her children, Craig (Dale) Herink of Louisville, Ky., Kent (Elaine) Herink of Johnston, Cheryl Crelly (David Cobos) of Scottsdale, Ariz., Karen (Bob) Holloman of Rye, N.Y., Cindy (Greg) Konrardy of Columbia, Mo., Kevin (Tammy) Herink of Clutier and Christine (Kerry) Mohrfeld of Urbandale; 18 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one brother, Donald (Lindy) Ferneau of North Little Rock, Ark.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Upper Midwest Chapter, 200 12th Ave. South, Minneapolis, MN 55415.
