An investigation is still ongoing to determine if a Cedar Rapids police officer will be issued a citation or disciplined after a crash on New Year's Eve.
Sgt. Cristy Hamblin, a police spokeswoman, said Officer Brandon Bosenberg was responding to a police chase around 10:40 p.m. Saturday when he lost control as he attempted to turn onto First Avenue East. Bosenberg took the corner too short while turning left from Second Street SE, and struck a vehicle stopped at the stoplight, according to a police report.
No one was hurt in the crash, police said.
The driver of the other vehicle, Zachary P. Klein, 23, of Cedar Rapids, was issued a citation for no proof of insurance, and his vehicle was towed. The charge was later dismissed when Klein proved he had insurance coverage.
Hamblin said the city would conduct an internal review to determine Bosenberg's fate, and noted that police officers have been issued tickets in the past while on the job.
The driver involved in the police chase pulled over after hitting a pole on the other side of the Cedar River, and was arrested on suspicion of operating while intoxicated.
