Rolfes, Jay G.
Jay G. Rolfes, 48, of Bettendorf, Iowa, passed away on Feb. 28, 2013, in Cordova, Ill., from heart failure. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1506 Brown Street, Bettendorf. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly and Jersey Ridge, Davenport, where a prayer service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be in Jack's Cemetery, rural LeClaire. Memorials may be made to Camp Courageous.
Jay was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on November 15, 1964 to Elmer and Cecilia Rolfes. He graduated in 1983 from Regis High School in Cedar Rapids and received his B.S. in Engineering from Iowa State University in 1988.
On June 11, 2005, Jay was united in marriage to Lynn Bass in Bettendorf, Iowa.
Jay worked at Excelon Corporation as a Senior Chemist/Engineer since 1988. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes in Bettendorf and was financial secretary for the Knights of Columbus council at St. John Vianney Parish. He loved watching football, especially the Chicago Bears and Iowa State Cyclones. He also enjoyed cars, motorcycles, FOX News, and his family (including their two dogs). There was no one more kind and compassionate than Jay. He was selfless and always willing to give his time and talent for those who needed it.
He is survived by his wife, Lynn; stepdaughter, Melissa Welsh of Bettendorf; stepson, Justin (Megan) Welsh of Chicago; his father, Elmer Rolfes of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Geralyn (Dave) Lloyd of Burlington, Iowa; brothers, Michael (Sue) Rolfes of Cedar Rapids, and Kevin Rolfes of Seattle, Wash.; brothers-in-law, Dean (Pat) Bass, and James Bass; sister-in-law, Julie (Mark) Moser; and nieces and nephews, Andrew Lloyd, Christina Rolfes, Carmen Lloyd, Hannah Lloyd, Barbara Bass, Brenda Bass, and Molly Moser. He was preceded in death by his mother, Cecilia (Stika) Rolfes.
