Swain, Helen E. 'Midge'
Helen E. “Midge” Swain, 85, of Nebraska City, Neb., passed away at her home Sunday morning, April 22, 2012.
Midge was born Aug. 16, 1926, in Nebraska City, Neb., the only child of Tom A. and Martha Isabel (Ransdell) Jones. She was a graduate of Nebraska City High School and attended the University of Omaha. She married Herbert E. Swain at Hanscom Park Methodist Church in Omaha, Neb., and was a current member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids.
Before retiring to Cedar Rapids, Midge was employed by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission at Arbor Lodge State Historical Park in Nebraska City for a total of 20 years. In 2000, she was named the Nebraska City Arbor Day Honoree.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Herbert.
She is survived by a son, Lynn Swain and wife Lori of Jones County; grandson, Tom Swain and wife Heather of Anamosa; granddaughter, Jessica Swain Moser and husband Nick of Marion; five great-granddaughters, twins Emily and Makayla Swain, Adelyn Swain and twins Genevieve and Autumn Moser; and other family and friends.
Funeral services for Midge will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City; burial will follow the services. No visitation or viewing is planned. The family requests the casket remain closed, however, those unable to attend the services may stop by Gude Mortuary to sign the Memorial Book.
