Greene, Gwendoline D.
Gwendoline D. Greene, 86, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Marion, died Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital after a short illness. Private family graveside services will be Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
Survivors include four sons, Robert (Tricia) of Marion, Daniel of Cedar Rapids, James (Tiffany) of Alburnett and Michael (Linda) of Olin; a daughter, Ann Greene of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Ruth Vauden and Molly Mauger, and a sister-in-law, Jill Eker, all of the island of Guernsey. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; four brothers, seven sisters, one grandson and one great-grandson.
Gwen was born Jan. 2, 1927, on the island of Guernsey (a part of the United Kingdom), the daughter of August and Annie Cherry Eker. She was a war bride and married Robert M. Greene on Jan. 1, 1945, in St. Helens, England. Robert passed away in 2012.
Gwen was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. She enjoyed knitting, bingo, going to the casino and especially the time spent with her beloved family.
Her memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
The family would like to thank Dr. Glanzer, Dr. Bell, Garnett Place, Bruce with St. Luke's Hospice and their staffs for their patience and excellent care give to Gwen.
Memorial donations may be given to the Cedar Valley Humane Society and Hospice at St. Luke's.
