Orman Jr., Thomas E.
Thomas E. Orman Jr., 86, of Cedar Rapids, died at St. Luke's Hospital on Friday, Sept. 13, 2013. Memorial Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Noelridge Christian Church, by the Rev. Stew Royce. A visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Tom is survived by his children, Mary Lynn (Gene) Johnson of Cedar Rapids and Tom (Selina) Orman III of Des Moines; a sister, Betty Cummings of Sun City West, Ariz.; and eight grandchildren, Andrew Newman, John Newman, Liz (Jeff) Newman Ehman, Miriam Chisala, Maxwell Chisala, Esther Chisala, Lenna Chisala and Dylan Orman.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Margaret.
Tom was born Feb. 9, 1927, in Graves Station, Ga., to Thomas and Grace Preston Orman. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He received a bachelor's degree in economics from Drake University, where he met his future wife, Margaret Manning. They were married almost 60 years. She died in 2007.
Tom had a long career in transportation management. In retirement he enjoyed cooking, golf, jazz music, volunteering his time at St. Luke's Hospital and spending time with his family. Additionally, Tom was an enthusiastic Mason, Shriner, and served as a member of the Shrine Color Guard.
