Laima Jean Mohler, 76,
of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, July 16, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Teahen Funeral Home.
Laima is survived by her daughter, Karen (Tom) Sauerbry of Cedar Rapids; son, Kevin (Terri) Mohler of Marion; five grandchildren, Michael (Amanda), Nicole (Adam), Jackie (Joe), Casey (Jon) and Tim (Katelyn); great-grandchildren, Deryck, Emmry, Braelyn and Felix; and beloved niece, Brenda Peel.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald "Moose"; her parents; sister, Joyce; and brother, Janis.
Laima was born Dec. 10, 1939, in Vijciema, Latvia, the daughter of Roberts and Anna Simsons Bruzitis. Laima and her family immigrated to the United States in 1948 and settled in Denmark. She was a 1958 graduate of Burlington High School, from there she went on to nursing school. She married Donald Mohler in August 1959 in Iowa City. Laima and Moose lived in Burlington until 1975, when they moved to Hiawatha. Laima worked as a nurse in Burlington and then at St. Luke's.
Laima served on the Hiawatha Library board. She enjoyed knitting and attending all types of social gatherings.
Laima's family would like to thank the staff at Manor Care and St. Luke's Hospice for all of their special care and compassion.
