Officials are warning local residents to watch out for rabid squirrels in the Iowa City area.
On Saturday a squirrel bit a person's foot in the 3200 block of Raven Street. An animal service officer found the squirrel acting lethargic one minute and attacking the next. The animal would also fall asleep when eating but then suddenly wake up.
The animal was impounded and tested positive for rabies.
Animal services is asking anyone who observes a wildlife animal acting in this manner to call the office at 319-356-5295.
