Dorothy M. Horner, 90, passed away Friday, May 12, 2017, at her home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, at Chapman Funeral Home in Wheatland with Pastor Tessa Cavey officiating. Burial will follow at the Massillon Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the funeral home.
Dorothy was born July 15, 1926, to August and Lois (Gehrls) Nyberg, in Geneseo, Ill. She married Lowell Horner Jr. in Chicago, on Jan. 7, 1946. He died Sept. 27, 1985.
Dorothy worked at the Rock Island Arsenal during World War II as a machinist and was a proprietor of Horner's Rendezvous in Toronto for years. She liked to fish, do crossword puzzles and was an animal lover.
Dorothy is survived by her sons, Daniel (Dawn) of New Castle, Colo., Dean (Wendy) of Amana and Douglas (Marilyn) of Bellevue; daughter, Dawn (Kevin) Edler of Toronto; grandchildren, Tracy Griffin, Jason Horner, Daniel Sanders, Tina Sanders Whitfield, Travis Horner, Michael Horner, James Burton, Luisa Burton, Angela Burton, Kylena Horner, Kevin Edler Jr., Ethan Horner, Nathan Horner, Candice Nelson, Christina Horner, Dale Horner, Denise Horner and Jentz Howlett; 38 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, David; two brothers, Walter and Gerald; two sisters, Lillian Town and Yarda McGregor; and great-granddaughter, Dacota Rane Nanke.
