Barkhurst, Delmar
Graveside memorial services for Delmar Barkhurst, 85, of Tipton, who died Feb. 9, 2011, will be held 1 p.m. Friday, March 11, at South Bethel Cemetery, Tipton, with the Rev. Ronald Lashmit officiating. The family will greet family and friends at 12:30 p.m. Friday at Fry Funeral Home before traveling to the cemetery. Military graveside rites performed by the Tipton VFW Post 2537 and Tipton American Legion Post 123.
Delmar was born March 11, 1925, in Cedar County, Iowa, the son of Otis and Martha (Rochlotz) Barkhurst. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and also during the Korean conflict for a total of nine years. On July 3, 1969, Delmar was united in marriage to Dorothy Thomas in Charleston, W.Va. He was employed by Oscar Meyer Corporation as a machinist for 19 years, retiring in 1990.
Delmar was a member of VFW and life member of NRA.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Barkhurst of Tipton; sons, Ken Bibby and George Stanley, both of Tipton; daughters, Donna Wiskus of Iowa City and Terri Belknap of Tipton; and grandson, James Shamblin of Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Martha Barkhurst; brothers, Leonard, Bill and Oscar Barkhurst; and sisters, Fern Williams and Bernice Pitcher.
