Betty Jean Drager, 90, of Tipton, passed away in the early morning hours Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2014, at Villa Del Sol Nursing Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton. There will be an American Legion Auxiliary service that afternoon at 3:30 before visitation and a Rebekah's Lodge service following visitation at 7 p.m. Betty's funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, at the funeral home. Graveside services will be immediately after the funeral at Tipton Masonic Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the burial back at Fry's.

A memorial has been established to the Tipton Public Library, as it was Betty's wish for all the little children to be able to read.
Betty was born Jan. 14, 1924, to Bruce and Nelle (Smith) Hegarty in Clarence, Iowa. She graduated from Tipton High School and furthered her education, graduating from Moline Business School. On Sept. 3, 1944, Betty married Dwayne Drager in Tipton. Together they had seven children. Betty worked in the business office billing department at the University of Iowa for 12 years, retiring in 1986.
She was a member of South Bethel United Methodist Church, Helping Hands Rebekah's Lodge, VFW Auxiliary and International Order of Kings Daughters and Sons, American Legion Auxiliary, Tipton Women's Club and American Business Women's Association. Betty volunteered at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Tipton Library and Tipton Farm Bureau Office.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dwayne; daughter-in-law, Candy Olds; son-in-law, Jerry Crispisn; and brother-in-law, Ray Schwitzer.
She is survived by her seven children, Robert (Brenda) Drager of Tipton, Anita Drager of Oklahoma City, Okla., Linda Crispin of Spokane, Wash., Dwayne Jr. (Gloria) Drager of Iowa City, Donald (Rita) Drager of Tipton, Dennis (Heidi) Drager of Marshalltown and Denise Drager of Denver, Colo.; sister-in-law, Duetta Schwitzer of Tipton; nephew, Rodney Schwitzer of Tipton; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
