About 10 seconds in, Iowa running back Jewel Hampton tells us that he's 90 to 95 percent healthy. He wouldn't go into specifics on the knee injury he suffered July 3. He also doesn't know if he'll have to wear a brace. He is practicing and going forward 100 percent. Around 1:00, the 5-9, 210-pounder from Indianapolis was asked if he feared the worst after the injury.
This whole injury thing touched off a bit of a media avalanche. Hampton laughed that off and got into a little bit about his monstrous Facebook.com account. He plans to still run "angry," something he has said about his style since he was recruited by Iowa. He has no particular goals and he does keep in contact with Shonn Greene, who Hampton backed up last season before Greene entered the draft and ended up a New York Jet.
At 3:20, he talks about his desire to return kicks. Yes, it's something he wants to do. He averaged 23.3 yards a return last season, sixth in the Big Ten. He joked about making his first reception as a college back.
Last year at media day, Jewel Hampton was the freshman with a curious first name. This year, he was front and center and will be in Iowa's running game.
