A high school football coach has resigned in the wake of his arrest for alleged drug possession.
Waterloo schools spokeswoman Sharon Miller says Antonio Nathaniel Mays resigned as head football coach for Waterloo East High School on Tuesday. Authorities say Waterloo police arrested the 31-year-old Mays late Monday for misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
Mays also teaches at the high school Iowa Jobs for America's Graduates, which the district has a contract with. His status in that position wasn't immediately known.
Court records indicate Mays admitted possessing marijuana after police pulled over his car when they noticed it didn't have a front license plate. Mays was arrested and released from the Black Hawk County Jail after posting bond.
Mays said he will release a statement in coming days.
