The Springville City Council will hold a hearing tonight on a proposal to annex the site of a new quarry.
B&C Materials has petitioned for a voluntary annexation of 140 acres south of Highway 151. The firm plans to operate a quarry on about 15 acres of the site, which would be south of an existing Wendling Quarry existing operation. The site is also west of the city's sewage treatment plant, which is west of Springville Road.
B&C is seeking annexation into Springville because Linn County's zoning rules wouldn't allow operation of a cement or asphalt plant at the site.
Bill Croell, B&C co-owner, said the firm wants to operate temporary asphalt or concrete plants at the site as needed, but doesn't plan a permanent operation there.
Trucks would run to and from the new quarry off O'Brien Lane, an unpaved road south off Highway 151.
The council meets at 6 p.m. at city hall.
