He started working for the Cedar Rapids Gazette upon graduation until he retired on Dec. 31, 1989. Ron married Patricia Bock on Aug. 5, 1951, making their home in Cedar Rapids. They had three children: Larry Alan, David Lee and Cynthia Ann. Ron enjoyed teaching his children to ice skate, ride bikes and to play ball. Ron was active in the Emerald Knights Drum and Bugle Corps, Iowa Speed Skating Club, scouting, baseball, and Kennedy wrestling. Ron and Pat liked to travel, taking the children all over the United States. As the children grew up he was delighted to show the grandchildren one week of vacation the sites he had shown his children. He liked to follow Kennedy sports, Honor choir, Show choir and following their progress in growing up. Ron liked the Iowa Hawkeyes and rarely missed a game. His home, family, and JD were his love and life.
Ron's life ended the way he wanted, spending the holidays with his family, and seeing his Iowa Hawkeyes win the Orange Bowl!
