Engelbrecht, Angela Joy
Angela Joy Engelbrecht, 88, of Dyersville, formerly of Fort Dodge, died peacefully Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011, at Oak Crest Manor, Dyersville. Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville, where a funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Mrs. Nancy Lange will officiate. Burial will be at North Lawn Cemetery, Fort Dodge, at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Joy was born Sept. 19, 1923, the daughter of Robert and Grace (Carr) Schallaire. She attended Knox College and Iowa State University, where she met Harlen Engelbrecht. They married Oct. 29, 1944, in Oak Park, Ill. She and Harlen lived in Lake Park, Iowa, for three years. In 1947, they moved to Fort Dodge, where Harlen went to work for Fort Dodge Labratories as a research veterinarian. Together they raised their family in Fort Dodge until retiring and moving to Dyersville in 2002.
Joy was a member of First Congregational Church in Fort Dodge and enjoyed the Wednesday Bible Study with Mrs. Nancy Lange at the Ellen Kennedy Living Center. She and Harlen enjoyed camping and boating with their sons. Later on they had a home in Okoboji, where they spent their summers. Joy loved holidays, especially Christmas with the family.
She was an accomplished Bridge player, avid reader, chocolate connoisseur and especially liked shopping and going out to lunch. Joy looked forward to family Sunday dinners. She was fond of all animals and loved her cat, Suki.
Survivors include her three sons, John (Michelle) Engelbrecht of Fort Dodge, Dan (Sue) Engelbrecht of Dyersville and David Engelbrecht of Orlando, Fla.; three grandchildren, Hans of North Liberty, Marta of Dubuque and Ellie Engelbrecht of Dyersville; and a stepgrandson, Scott (Kyland) Hideley, and their three children, Maci Paylen, and Highland and Austin Bolt.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Harlan in 2008.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Ellen Kennedy Living Center, Oakcrest Manor, Hospice of Dubuque and doctors for their wonderful care.
Joy was a unique lady and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
