Herbert W. Kennedy, 85, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be held Sunday, May 11, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Herbert Wayne Kennedy was born Nov. 9, 1928, to Ancel and Clara Fry Kennedy in New Virginia,
Iowa. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. Herbert was united in marriage to Marilyn Schutzman on Oct. 2, 1954, in Cedar Rapids. He worked at Square D, Pre-Stressed Concrete of
Iowa and retired in 1990 from Discovery Living.
He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, gardening, collecting toy trains and spending time with his grandchildren. He will always be remembered for his love for his family and his wonderful sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marilyn; children, Linda (Doug) McMurrin of Texas and Jerry (Melinda) Kennedy of Parkville, Mo.; and grandchildren, Nichole, Samantha, Abigail, Jessica Kennedy and Hayden McMurrin.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael Kennedy in 2006; two brothers; and three sisters.
