Shirley M. White, 79, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday morning, July 26, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 Second St. SE, with Father Christopher Podhajsky officiating. The family will receive friends after noon Thursday at the funeral home.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 60 years, David; four children, David White and wife Kim, Marion, Cathy White, Vicky White and Bradley White and wife Kari, all of Cedar Rapids; sister, Janice Glessner, Hiawatha; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren and a great-grandson to be born in October.
She was preceded in death by her son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Patti White; and her parents, Orville and Frances (Keating) Koppess.
Shirley was born May 22, 1935, in Cascade, and came to Cedar Rapids with her family when she was 4 years old. She graduated from St. Wenceslaus High School in 1953. Shirley married David L. White on Nov. 2, 1953, in Iowa City. She was employed as a CNA at Mercy Medical Center for 38 years, until her retirement in 1998. She was a lifetime member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church.
Shirley loved spending time with her family and going to movies with her sister, Jan.
Contributions in Shirley's memory may be given to St. Luke's Hospice.
