Volesky, John Charles

John Charles Volesky, 87, of Cedar Rapids, died at his beloved farm home from Parkinson's disease on Feb. 4, 2010. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Burial will follow at Czech National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. today at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.

John is survived by his wife, Adeline, of over 64 years; three children, Carol (Larry) Junis of Rock Island, Illi., Nadine Anderson of North Liberty and Dennis (Debbie) Volesky of Swisher; five grandchildren, Scott (Lindsey) Baumgartner, Todd Baumgartner, Kimberly, Lisa and Craig Volesky; as well as three great-grandchildren, Kaiya, Shannon and Alliauna Baumgartner; sisters, Evelyn Thuerauf of Joplin, Mo., and Eleanor (Dale) Hegland of Cedar Rapids; sisters-in-law, Blanche Volesky of Cedar Rapids and Marge Volesky of Newhall; as well as many nieces and nephews. 

John was preceded in death by his parents, William and Molly Kroul Volesky; brothers, Lawrence and Marvin Volesky; and a son-in-law, Lon Anderson.

John was born Feb. 4, 1923, on a farm, which is now part of Seminole Park, in Linn Junction. He married Adeline Jansa on June 5, 1945, at the First Bohemian and Moravian Church, rural Ely. John spent his life on the farm. He enjoyed farming and took good care of his animals, machinery and in soil conservation. His early hobby was taking flying lessons at Hunter Airport. He later enjoyed traveling with his family, touring all 50 states and Europe and Canada. His enjoyment in retirement was attending Czech music concerts and festivals.

He was a member of Asbury Methodist Church, Pautz Senior Group, National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library and Czech Heritage Foundation, where he pulled a float with his John Deere tractor in parades in Czech Village and surrounding towns during their celebrations. He belonged to Linn County Farm Bureau and served many years on the Public Relations and Building committee. 

John was a devoted and loving husband, dad and deda, and will be missed by all who knew him.
