Dubisher, Winston E. 'Dubie'
Winston E. “Dubie” Dubisher, 92, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Sept. 26, 2011, with his family by his side at Heritage Rehab and Nursing Center after a long illness. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. Jonathan L. Offt. Burial: St. Paul Cemetery, Williamsburg. Friends may visit after 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
Winston was born Dec. 6, 1918, in Iowa County, the son of Anna (Thomas) and Edward Dubisher.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Frank Hess; stepmother, Nina Dubisher; sisters, Marge (Robert) Narber and Lucille (Armon) Mills; brother, Jim Hess; brothers-in-law, Erich Madoerin, Armon Mills and Robert Narber; nephews, Ron Madoerin and Scott Hess; his Dalmatian, Speck; and his hateful cat, Tucker.
Winston is survived by his wife of 69 years, Anita (Madoerin); daughter, Marilyn Hopcus of Cedar Rapids; son, Gary Dubisher of Littleton, Colo.; grandchildren, Jason (Virian) Hopcus, Jordan Hopcus, Angie Dubisher, Heather (James) Evanoff, Ryan (Joanna) Dubisher, Laura (Courtney) Wolfe and Jason Burianek; great-grandchildren, Brenden, Justin, Keemo, Courtney and Conrad; sisters-in-law, Esther (Idris) Davies and Stella Esther Madoerin; many nieces and nephews; and his little dog, Bug.
Originally a farmer in Iowa County, Winston then served in the U.S. AAF during World War II. He moved his family to Cedar Rapids in 1952, where he worked for Kenwood Furniture and Transfer, until his retirement in 1980. During his retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his family, gardening, and playing cards with friends, tinkering in his garage and spending time with grandchildren.
He was a gentle, kind man who will be dearly missed.
