Kent Marshall Johnson, 96, of Hiawatha, died Monday, Sept. 5, 2016, in the Hiawatha Care Center. Graveside services are set for 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Valley Cemetery in Valley, Neb. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his sons, Glenn (Barbara) Johnson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Kent Jr. (Phyllis) Johnson of Highlands Ranch, Colo. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Bryan, Ben, Kristin and Katie Johnson, Joanna Koch and Jeana Hardin; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ellen Marie Johnson; and sisters, Mary Kay Davies and Glendine Eason.
Kent was born on Nov. 16, 1919, in Arlington, Neb., the son of Glenn and Herma Gail (Marshall) Johnson. He married Ellen Marie Nelson on June 14, 1946, in Fremont, Neb. Kent was an economist for the Employment Security Commission of Iowa and a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Des Moines. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as a C47 pilot. He enjoyed travelling to several countries with Ellen, playing cribbage and other card games (especially with his family). He played golf and bowled in several leagues over the years. He was a big fan of baseball and football.
