Time for politicians to address gas tax

To the editor:
On Nov. 13, I read Todd Dorman's column 'Fueling up for a gas tax debate.” I agree that now is the time for the politicians to get to work to resolve the problem.
I have two suggestions: (1) make certain that the tax that is currently collected at the gas pump be used only for roads. (2) There is a group who as far as I know currently do not pay a gas tax. Ask them to do so because they use the bridges that the government has provided. Accuse me of being against motherhood and apple pie, OK. It is my belief that currently our agricultural farm workers do not pay a license for their tractors. It would be a nice gesture if they would pay at least just a little. I don't think that all of their wagons need a license, but I do think that the gas, diesel or electric powered machines that go down the country road and ultimately go over a bridge should help pay for that bridge.
I don't think that just raising the current tax rate is any solution at all. All that does is devalues money which is a solution worse than the cure of monetary inflation.
Too, I congratulate Joni Ernst for winning the election. We need a more clear thinker for a Senator on the abortion issue.
