Earl F. Ceynar, 83, lifelong resident of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, officiated by CRFD Chaplain James Coyle. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the chapel. Interment with military honors will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Earl was born Feb. 4, 1933, in Cedar Rapids to William and Stella (Dusek) Ceynar. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving honorably with the 718th Strategic Reconnaissance Squadron, Ellsworth AFB, Rapid City, S.D., and at Anderson AFB in Guam during the Korean War as a crew chief on the RB36. He was united in marriage to Lois Garner on Aug. 19, 1959, in Iowa City.
As a civilian, Earl was a firefighter and EMT-D for 38 years, auxiliary police officer, armored car driver, mechanic, dairy farmer and taxi driver. He held licenses as a commercial helicopter and aircraft pilot. Most importantly he was a husband, a father, a friend of many, and a man of faith and duty who did his job tirelessly and selflessly.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois, in 2014; stepson, Allen Speidel; and stepdaughter, Darlene Speidel.
He is survived by his son, Chris Ceynar of Texas.
