Edna Ruth Hunter, 78, of Marion, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2015, surrounded by her family, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. A visitation will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, with a rosary service to begin at 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Edna was born March 24, 1937, the daughter of James and Myrtle (Bolongi) Yirkovsky in Calmar, Iowa. On Dec. 28, 1953, she married Kenneth J. Hunter. She was a great artist and writer. Edna had an avid love for traveling and took many trips with her family. She also enjoyed trips to the casinos and playing bingo. Edna was a great cook and was always baking for her family. She also was a big fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, and liked to go fishing. Most of all, her greatest joy was being with her family. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and will be greatly missed by all.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth J. Hunter of Marion; daughter, Deborah (Kenneth) Burns of Cedar Rapids; sons, Michael (Dana) Hunter of Marion, Randall (Lisa) Hunter of Albert Lea, Minn., James (David) Hunter of Marion and Scott Hunter of Marion; grandchildren, Ashley and Amber Burns, Michelle McIntosh, Heather (Alex) Huegli, Christopher and Andrew Hunter, Teri, Danielle and Amanda Hunter and Patrick, Jonathon, Chase and Levi Burkhart-Hunter; great-grandchildren, Parker and Zerek Huegli; sister, Shirley (Jerry) Ottaway of Marion; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Barbara Jean Hunter; siblings, Miriam Hauser, James Yirkovsky, Darlene Bridge, Kenneth York, Darrell Yirkovsky, Marvin Yirkovsky and Ronald Yirkovsky; in-laws, James and Harriet Hunter; sister-in-law, Lois Finholt; and several nieces and nephews.
