Dr. James J. Mezhir,
42, of Coralville, died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at the River Community Church in Iowa City by the Rev. Tommy Roberts of Life Pointe Christian Faith Center where James and his family have been very active members.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for his daughters Malinee and Anjali's education.

James was born June
28, 1973, in Niagara Falls, N.Y., the son of James A. and Virginia (Calvano) Nanula. Following graduation from high school, he received his bachelor's in biology and psychology (dual degree) from Canisius College in Buffalo; received a master's in psychology from the State University of New York; surgical residency at the University of Chicago Medical Center; and surgical oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Center.
James was united in marriage to Elizabeth "Priya" George on May 21, 2005, in Grand Island, N.Y. In 2010, their family moved to Iowa City where he was an assistant professor of surgery at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Dr. Mezhir had been active in his professional career, belonging to numerous societies and organizations.
His family includes his wife, Elizabeth "Priya" Mezhir; their two daughters, Malinee Grace and Anjali Mary; mother, Virginia (Savino) Nanula of Grand Island, N.Y.; father, James (Patricia) Mezhir of Lewiston, N.Y.; brothers, John (Jennifer) Mezhir of Grand Island and Timothy Mezhir and Daniel Mezhir of Lewiston; sister, Brittany Mezhir of Lewiston; step-brothers, Philip (Theresa) Nanula, Steven (Dana) Nanula, Paul (Karen) Nanula and Anthony (Holly) Nanula); and Priya's family, her parents, George Joseph and Mary George of Burr Ridge, Ill.; sister, Reena (Brian) Trushel, of Cleveland, Ohio; and brother, Vinith George of Burr Ridge.
He will be remembered by many for his dedication to his strong Christian faith, career, compassion, sincerity and love for his family.
