Paul S. Shaffer Sr., 81, of Central City, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, at his home. A Freedom of Life will be held from 1 until 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, at the Central City American Legion Post 421, with military honors.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara; children, Debra (Stephen) Welter of Coggon, Linda (Cletus) Lawrence of Central City, Kathy Remling of Arizona, Paul Shaffer Jr. of Cedar Rapids, Tammy Shaffer (Rich Walker) of Central City and Edward Syrovy (Becky Hoffman) of Cedar Rapids; many grandchildren and great-grand-children; brothers, Thomas (Marion) Shaffer of Robins and James (Janet) Toom of Cedar Rapids; and his faithful dog, Gidget.
Paul was preceded in death by his brother, Earl Shaffer; sisters, Betty Koster and Norma Gericke; and two grandchildren.
Paul was born June 28, 1933, in Cedar Rapids, the son of LaVern and Hazel (Phram) Shaffer. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean conflict.
A memorial fund has been established in Paul's memory.
