Klocke, Elmer J.
Elmer J. Klocke, 86, of Cascade, formerly of Canton, Iowa and Mount Hope, Wis., died 1:58 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque. Friends and relatives of Elmer may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, where a wake service will be held at 4 p.m. Services for Elmer J. Klocke will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 28, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Temple Hill. Burial will be in church cemetery, with full military honors afforded by Cascade American Legion Post 528.
Elmer was born April 20, 1924, in Randolf, Neb., son of John J. and Catherine (Weis) Klocke. He received his education in the Randolf, Neb., area schools. On Nov. 17, 1952, he was united in marriage to Eva Mae Manternach at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cascade. The couple farmed in the Temple Hill area. Elmer was also employed at Camp Courageous in Monticello.
Elmer was a World War II Marine Corps veteran, having served from 1944 to 1946 in Okinawa, Japan and China as a corporal. He was a member of St. Peter's Parish in Temple Hill, Cascade Knights of Columbus Council 930 and Cascade American Legion Post 528.
He is survived by eight sons, Ralph (Sheila) Klocke of Albertville, Minn., Steve (Kathy) Klocke of Maquoketa, Jim Klocke of Springfield, Ill., Greg Klocke of Dubuque, Mark Klocke of Monticello, Gary Klocke of Dubuque, Bob (Lisa) Klocke of Lancaster, Wis., and Jeff (Merette) Klocke of Rolfe, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Marjorie VanSlyke of Randolf, Neb.; a sister-in-law, Rita Klocke of Cascade; and sisters- and brothers-in-law, Florence Schockemoehl, Veronica Welter, Larry (Lois) Manternach, Joe (JoAnn) Manternach, Ralph (Rita) Manternach, Ron (Bridget) Manternach, Joan (Tom) Hoffmann, Muriel (Duane) Schlemme, Lois (Alan) Gravel, Lester (Mary Ellen) Manternach, all of Cascade, Alvina (Robert) Grief of Monticello, Katie (Harry) Rockzien of Wyoming, Iowa, Loras (Donna) Manternach of Masonville and Clarence Quint of Manchester.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eva Mae Kocke on June 22, 2002; one son, John Klocke on June 17, 1979; one sister, Adeline Kramer; two brothers, Alex Klocke and Lavertus “Verdy” Klocke; and sisters- and brothers-in-law, Eleanor Quint Sr. Irmina Manternach, Harry Schockemoehl and Herman Welter.
A Elmer J. Klocke memorial fund has been established.
