Gerald Eugene Ross, 82. The Lord beckoned. Gerald answered. Gerald Eugene Ross died peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at Premier Estates of Toledo under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Memorial services will be held Friday, July 14, at 11 a.m. at New Life Evangelical Free Church in Tama with Pastor Steve Brant officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo.
Gerald was born on March 18, 1935, the son of Howard and Jesse (Lyman) Ross in Iowa City, Iowa.
On Jan. 19, 1957, he and Mary Ann Ebersole exchanged vows at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Except for a short time in Marshalltown, they have lived at the same house in Toledo Heights for 60 years.
Gerald was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish with his friends and family. He would spend many afternoons and evenings fishing at his favorite spots. He also enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family. July Fourth celebrations were a special time with all the family gathering together to celebrate and watch fireworks from his house at Toledo Heights.
Gerald was a member of New Life Church in Tama and looked forward to gathering with his church family whenever he could.
Gerald proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After the service, he was employed at Pioneer in Toledo and then with Gethmann Contruction in Gladbrook until his retirement.
Gerald is survived by his four children, Douglas (Sarah) Ross of Tama, Dennis (Stephanie) Ross of Buckingham, Diane (Joseph) Yilek of Tama and Darrell Ross of Shenandoah; grandchildren, Jessica Ross (Shane Manfull), Natalie Ross (Piyush Ramachandran), Meredith (David) Leaton, Jodi (Chris) Sanders, Joshua (Megan) Yilek, Jordan Ross and Zachary Ross; and great- grandchildren, Riley Stubbs, Lucy Leaton, Leo Leaton, Jonah Yilek, Makena Yilek and Emma Jo Sanders.
