Some comments on The Gazette and its opinion page:
That page and the puzzle page alone are worth the subscription price.
I must comment on the two columnists who appear next to each other frequently on Sundays. First, Charles Krauthammer provides insightful and objective articles on many issues, truly a real thinker.
Then there is Leonard Pitts. You can bet his column will do either one of two things: play the race card in some way or other, or take cheap shots at people who think differently from him (Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin, etc.). I really don't know why he keeps writing for he has repeated many times everything he has to say.
As editor of the page, Jeff Tecklenburg does not have an easy job. He cannot please everyone and must try to cover many issues. If I could make one suggestion it would be to place more emphasis on what happens in our nation's capitol and less on local issues such as traffic cameras, animal rights, etc. What happens in our nation's capitol eventually trumps all local issues and also has tremendous impact around the world.
The puzzle and opinion page have one important thing in common. Both require one to think, an attribute that is in short supply these days, especially in Washington, D.C., on both sides of the political aisle.
Finally, I still miss (retired columnist) Mike Deupree. Sorry, Todd, but keep on trying.
