Miles, Hila Mae
Hila Mae Miles, 79, of Hopkinton, passed away Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque.
She was born May 25, 1933, in Monticello, the daughter of Merritt and Mildred (Miller) Haigh. Hila was raised and educated in the area, and graduated from the Buck Creek High School, where she loved and was a star playing basketball. After graduation she attended Upper Iowa University for two years and acquired her teaching certificate.
Hila taught at the Buck Creek and Quasqueton schools and later did substitute teaching. On July 19, 1953, Hila was united in marriage to Ronald Miles at Buck Creek. Together they farmed and Hila was a full-time farmer's wife. She also worked at the Penn Center as a cook for over 10 years.
Hila enjoyed being with her family, cooking, traveling, and square dancing.
Survivors include her husband, Ronald Miles of Hopkinton; five children, Mark Miles of Hopkinton, Randy (Deb) Miles of Delhi, Craig Miles of Delhi, Tim (Lori) Miles of Monticello and Cindy (Gary) Burkle of Dyersville; five grandchildren, Tracey, Kody and Mandi Miles and Kayla and Colten Burkle; one great-grandchild, Bailey Miles; her sister, Letha (Robert) Yearous of Coaldale, Canada; and her brother, Joe Haigh of Monticello.
Hila was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Brook Miles; her brother, John Haigh; and a sister, Anita Haigh.

Funeral Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, at United Methodist Church in Delhi, by the Rev. Loraine Hartman. Friends may call from 2 until 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home and Crematory in Manchester and one hour before services at the church on Wednesday. Interment: Evergreen Cemetery, Delhi.
