Marj Chappell, 90, of Marion, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 17, 2017, at her daughter and son-in-law's residence surrounded by the love of her family and friends. She fought a courageous battle with osteoporosis. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 3500 29th Ave., Marion, Iowa. A luncheon will follow the celebration.
Marj was preceded in death by her parents, August and Vinta (Ross) Haegdorn; husbands, Art Henriksen and Joe Chappell; and her sister, Terp Thomas.
Marj was a devoted and loving mother to Judi (Bob) Conrad of Marion, Iowa, Jim (Vickie) Henriksen of Pequot Lakes, Minn., and Janet (Hale) Evans of Alma, Wis.; proud grandma to her eight grandchildren, Bill (Brenda) Stroschein, Dan Stroschein, Tammy (Tim) Taylor, Tim (Molly) Henriksen, Renee Henriksen, Eric (Nicki) Jandro, Heidi Jandro and Clint Evans; and amazing great-grandma of her 11 great-grandchildren, Jordan, Austin, Ryan, Madison, Grant Dean, J.T., Ella, Ashley, Jacob, Keenan and Eli. Marj's beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of many others, including her siblings, Betty Gibson, Barb Deidic and Rex Hagedorn; along with a host of devoted nieces, nephews and friends.
Marj loved spending time with family and friends. She was a great cook. Her other interests included bingo, playing cards and listening to music. One of her most recent fondest memories was the celebration of her 90th birthday with family and friends this past spring.
