Alfred P. Standley, 74, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday morning, Jan. 8, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital. Celebration of Alfred's Life will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 Second St. SE, with Pastor David King officiating. Friends may call after 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Alfred is survived by his wife, Roberta; four children, Joe Jebbia, Lake of the Hills, Ill., Sharon Sorensen, Batavia, Ill., and Greg (Kerree) Standley and Cory (Troy Henry) Standley, both of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Detreich, Devin, Ryan, Melissa and Kyle; sisters, Louise (Bob) Elsemiller and Dorothy Gabriel, both of Branson, Mo., and Evelyn Miller, Grayslake, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Catherine Ann (Lemke) Standley, and a sister, Helen Poyer.
Alfred was born Oct. 25, 1940, in Des Plaines, Ill., and moved to Cedar Rapids from Des Plaines in August 1972. He married Roberta J. Woosley on May 1, 1971, in Des Plaines. In Cedar Rapids, Alfred was a local mobile tool dealer for 37 years until his retirement.
Alfred was a member of First Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and hunting. He loved to play pinochle and in his younger days, he played guitar in his band "The Neutrons."
Alfred was an excellent cook and with his wife, competed in and won many chili cook-offs. He also enjoyed baking pastries and desserts.
Contributions in his memory may be given to First Church of the Nazarene.
