MARY ANN WHERRY
Oxford Junction
Mary Ann Wherry, 84, of Oxford Junction, passed away Sunday, Nov. 9, 2014, at Anamosa Care Center. Her funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 14, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oxford Junction. Friends and family may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, with Scripture service at 7 p.m., at Lahey Funeral Home in Oxford Junction. Burial will be in the Mayflower Cemetery.
Mary Ann was born April 24, 1930, to Joseph and Mary (Quirk) Stowers in Oxford Junction. She was united in marriage on Jan. 19, 1950 to Richard Wherry in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In her early years, she worked as a nurse at St. Luke's Hospital, then for Clinton Engines and Sears, where she retired after 28 years.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Guild and the Legion Auxiliary in Oxford Junction. She enjoyed bowling, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren.
Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Richard; children, Jackie (Rodney Bartlet) Wherry of Indianapolis, Ind., and Gordon (Sandra) Wherry of Anamosa; her grandchildren, Angela Strait and Ryan Wherry; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her granddaughter, Nicole in 1977.
