Broulik, Mary Constance 'Connie'
Mary Constance “Connie” Broulik, 71, of Mechanicsville, died Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 28, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mechanicsville. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, with a 7 p.m. parish rosary.
Mary was born Sept. 15, 1939, in Iowa City, the daughter of Earl E. and Mary Catherine (Volk) Anderson. She married Richard Emil Broulik on June 4, 1957, in Washington, at St. James Catholic Church. She was a graduate of West Chester High School and farmed for years with her husband. Mary also owned and operated the Mercantile in Mount Vernon. Before her illness, she managed Catherine's in Cedar Rapids.
Mary and Richard had seven children: William (Barb), Dale (Brenda), Susan (Daryl) Spivey, Mark, Laura (Bill) Kowal, Steve (Brenda) and Wesley. Also surviving are siblings, Earl R. (Karen) Anderson, Virginia O'Dell, Judy Anderson and Barbara Burr. She has five grandchildren, Clayton, Anna (Luke), Chase, Kelly and Quinn; eight stepgrandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her parents; a brother and sister.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mechanicsville and was active with the Mechanicsville Library Board. Mary was very involved in her children's school and college activities.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may go to St Mary's Catholic Church, Mechanicsville, or St Luke's Hospice, Cedar Rapids.
